Contributions
Since the school’s founding in 1986, donations have played a significant role in the operations of the Alabama School of Gospel Music. A group of generous donors richly blessed ASGM by giving their time, money, and energy to see the school established. This has allowed us to keep the tuition price for all students well below the actual cost of attendance.
Donations have been important from the beginning and fall into one of two categories. First, there are contributions to the general fund. These gifts help cover the ASGM’s functional costs including facilities fees paid to Snead State Community College, teacher pay, supplies, songbooks, and any other spending related to the school’s operations. By maintaining a healthy general fund, ASGM can reduce the attendance cost for each person who attends – young or old, paying student, sponsored or scholarship student.
The second form of donation is through scholarships, awarded based on merit or need. The ASGM faculty makes the decision to grant merit-based scholarships to recognize students who have furthered or demonstrate potential to significantly further their musical abilities. Need based scholarships are available should attendance to ASGM create a financial hardship for the student and their family. Any person aware of a current or potential student that would benefit from need based financial aid can make a referral, and a form to express need is also available at the ASGM website.
A full scholarship will cover all tuition, fees, and school expenses for a full-time student while they stay in the dorm and eat in the cafeteria. It is our goal to award this type of scholarship to students whose primary residence is far enough from campus that commuting becomes impractical. Scholarships are also available for commuting students, whether they attend full-time or part-time, day or night. On occasion, partial scholarships may be available and offered.
We ask that you prayerfully consider donating to the Alabama School of Gospel Music, whether that be to the general fund or scholarship fund. The officers, board of directors, faculty, staff, and students will wisely apply any donation or investment to preserve the heritage of southern gospel music while improving the music and worship experience in our churches.
More than anything else, please pray for ASGM and all the other schools of gospel music.
